I have some exciting news for you. It’s 2025 and that means it’s the 10-year anniversary of my first book, The New Music Industry. A little hard to believe, isn’t it?
I’ve been thinking about what I might want to do on the 10th anniversary of my first book and I’ve decided to open source it.
One of the things I’m going to be doing is I’m going to be reading the entire book from start to finish. I’ll probably read it one chapter at a time, possibly on a live stream or possibly on a video like this. And at the end of it, we’ll have one complete video and it’s very easy to turn it into an audio as well, so I’ll probably do that.
As for the written version, I’m not too sure what to do. I’m thinking I could post it on my website and make it available for comment. I could simply make the ebook downloadable. But I would love to hear your thoughts. What would you like to see?
Now, for those who are wondering, the book will still remain available for purchase on Amazon, Kobo, and all the major book distributors. If this is the first time watching one of my videos or you don’t even know who I am, there’s absolutely no expectation that you’re going to buy anything. And in fact, if you wait long enough, the video version or the audio version of the book will be available for free.
One of the reasons I’m doing this is because the information in the book is just a tiny bit outdated. For the most part, it still applies very much to today’s music business and everything that’s occurring and how to create an independent music career.
But the second reason is I am going to be creating, and it may not be in the immediate future, it could be a year, it could be two years down the line, but I’m going to be creating a far superior second edition of The New Music Industry. So that’s the other reason I felt… Because honestly, the second edition is going to be so different from the first edition. That’s one of the reasons I thought I would make it open source.
Do let me know your thoughts. If you have any other requests, if you have any other thoughts on what I should do with the written version or any other ways you would like to see this become available for free, I look forward to seeing your comments.
