Where to Find Me Today: October 3, 2022

I sometimes wonder whether we each have unique life paths.

If we were to assume, for a moment, that this were true, it would take the pressure off a lot of areas you might consider yourself a “failure.”

Maybe you’re 40 and haven’t gone on your first date. Maybe you’ve been a visual artist for 30 years and have never sold more than five paintings. Perhaps you’ve been trying to expand your political career but can’t seem to catch a break.

Whether it’s the legendary comic book writer Stan Lee, 16th U.S. president Abraham Lincoln, or American businessman of KFC fame Colonel Sanders, what they all have in common is they weren’t successful until later in life.

What if that was the perfect life path for them? What if, becoming successful earlier, for whatever reason, would have been inconvenient?

What if a few significant areas of your life were set in stone before you ever began your journey – such as who you would marry and when, when your business would finally become successful, or maybe even how long you would live.

How would that make you feel about your life? Would it start to look like less of a mistake?

I’m not saying that freewill doesn’t exist. All I’m saying is, maybe what seems so obvious to you isn’t to others because it’s not their life path. They have something to fulfill on before they learn to drive. Or they have a life situation they need to overcome before they’re given that big promotion at work.

It’s easy to contrast and compare. To look at someone and go, “well, you know, the reason they aren’t married is because they’re ultra-picky and frankly creepy.” That might not have anything to do with it at all. It might be that they have situations that need to be resolved before they can be in a healthy relationship.

It’s easy to make light of people who we think should have taken their education further, or should have started their own business, or should have married by now. It might not be their life path. They may not have a life path that adheres to accepted norms and timelines.

If you focus more on your life path, not only will you find it more rewarding, but you will also be more accepting of those who seem to defy categorization. Criticizing others for what’s obvious to you (and maybe not so obvious to them) knowingly achieves nothing, and in the long run can only hurt you.

What “accidental” or unexpected successes have you had?

I’ve been thinking more about this lately because there have been a few things, through the years, that have exploded, much to my surprise. Like the following:

  • I had a Britney Spears parody site that drove thousands of visitors per day
  • When one of my first bands, Lightly Toasted Touché, released our unrehearsed jams on the internet, it crashed our website due to the volume of downloads we got
  • I wrote a blog post about Joseph Murphy’s The Power of Your Subconscious Mind that became my top trafficked blog post of all time (even weirder, it lives on Music Entrepreneur HQ)
  • I spent decades composing music for small projects, and out of nowhere, a score I composed for a short film ended up being nominated once, and winning four Best Original Score awards
  • A rant I published on Medium ended up becoming my most engaged story on the platform
  • I gained over 6,000 followers on Tealfeed as I started syndicating my content to their platform

I was beginning to speculate on the idea that these accidental successes may hold the key to my true calling in life.

I don’t have all the connections worked out. I’m taking still inventory of all that has flown.

As I chew on a stogie in my smoke jacket while nursing a whisky, I wax philosophically on the brilliant marketing endeavors we churn out day after day. The team is lounging on expensive leather couches, enjoying a still moment in my luxurious office as we listen to Bowie on vinyl.

Well, I’m sure that’s what you’d want me to say, at any rate. Let’s just say, in this case, it’s more expectation than reality. Which is okay because that ship’s got to be coming in… SOON.

Here’s where to find royalty in the making today:

What’s good?

The theme of the day is this:

Whether it’s a creative project, business, or marketing campaign, you can spend ages planning.

But in practice, things never go completely according to plan.

As the old saying goes:

Plans are useless, but planning is indispensable.

There are things you won’t be able to see unless you start putting one step in front of the other. As you advance, one step at a time, more will be revealed.

It’s okay to make mistakes. People forget relatively quickly, especially nowadays.

But you can’t keep planning if you want to know what your next steps are. You’ve got to start in the direction of your destination and adjust course as more information becomes available.

There are unexpected occurrences on every journey. Things you can’t possibly account for.

Begin now. Begin anyway. Thinking is necessary, but action is genius in motion.

Much love.

Hey friends!

Well, I know it’s been a while. It’s really been a whirlwind as of late, something you will know well if you’ve been following my journey on Steemit.

Some of you might be wondering why I’ve been posting to Steemit and not here or on Medium, and it was an intuitive decision first and foremost. But I’ve also been itching to experiment more aggressively with Steemit. Guaranteed I will be sharing the results of this experiment in a future blog post. 😉

I’ve already got a ton of projects on the go (as I always do – let’s face it), but I must admit it didn’t feel right to me that I wasn’t posting updates here on DavidAndrewWiebe.com. So, here I am to share a little bit about what I’m up to and to point you in the direction of “where to find me” today.

On any given day, I’m producing and publishing insane amounts of content, but you must know where to look to find it. I figured, instead of making you work for it, though, I would curate and compile all the posts and share them with you here.

Here’s what I have to share with you today. Enjoy!
