#StrategySunday – May 16, 2021

Welcome to another #StrategySunday, champ!

Systems are there to serve you. You’re not there to serve them.

Which is why this week’s #StrategySunday is different.

I’m taking a strategic break from the usual rigmarole of trying to get all my ducks in a row.

Instead, I’m looking at how to cut back on current responsibilities for the sake of my own health and well-being.

I’m planning to take a 10-break at the beginning of June.

But even leading up to that point, I will be keeping a close watch on my energies. I’m even looking at taking a sabbatical from Twitter and Music Entrepreneur HQ.

This will not be effective immediately, nor will it be permanent, as I have some work left to complete. But suffice it to say I won’t be putting any extra effort into these channels for a few weeks.

I do have other projects and staff writing duties to tend to until I go on break, so I will be prioritizing these, while ensuring that I spend more time resting.

I look forward to getting back to the work that matters to me and inspires you. But first, I need to recharge.

#StrategySunday – May 9, 2021

Welcome to another #StrategySunday, champ!

This is already shaping up to be a big week in terms of content, projects, and meetings, so let me get right to the point (especially since last week’s #StrategySunday was as good as non-existent).

Here’s this week’s #StrategySunday breakdown.

Minutes

Here is what I went over during this planning session:

  • I went over my content responsibilities for the week. There’s quite a bit on the list, especially since I’m looking to launch my paid newsletter as soon as possible. But I did get a head start to the week by scheduling all my tweets.
  • I reviewed my projects for the week. The workload is looking kind of heavy, but fortunately, most projects should not require a huge investment of time and effort. There is one that will take up a few hours this week though.
  • I went over my musical projects. I’m mostly up to date, and don’t have multiple projects to work on at present. I’m just trying to get my arrangement of a certain hymn done.
  • I reviewed my admin responsibilities for the week. The to-do list has grown again, though most of it shouldn’t take up too much time.
  • I went over my meetings for the week. I’ve got more meetings than usual, but there is only one that should require preparation.

Lessons

Was there anything that came out of this week’s reflection and planning session?

  • My business dipped a bit in April, so for a hot minute I went into my default mode of scrambling. But it was only a matter of a week or two before things started sorting themselves out. So, what I realized through that experience is that it’s better to remain consistent and steady than to begin running around like a headless chicken, even when it seems like things are going awry. There are always more opportunities around the corner. I’ve now realized this at a deeper level.

Ideas

Were there any ideas that came out of this week’s session?

  • I had the thought to turn #StrategySunday lessons into Instagram posts. I think there might be some potential there.

#StrategySunday – May 2, 2021

Today’s #StrategySunday is a little different. I won’t be sharing anything about my planning session because… I didn’t have one.

I took a course this weekend, and that has taken up the hours I usually dedicate to sending out newsletters and planning for the week.

Which is fine, because what I got in the course is well beyond what I paid to be a part of it.

But I’ve realized that trying to share what I learned in a transformative course is mostly futile.

Because in a transformative course, you don’t learn. You transform.

The proof is in the pudding, as it were, and I am the pudding. You either notice the change in me or you don’t.

So, the only thing I’ll share here about the course is that my heart feels open again. I’m dialing up old friends and new friends and having conversations I’ve needed to have. And I’m discovering so much about the people I thought I knew. I’m impressed, surprised, and fascinated by what people are creating in their lives. And, in some cases, there’s a fire being lit under by butt. I’m even discovering fresh opportunities for collaboration and partnership, despite that not being the intent for the communication.

In summary, my head is empty, my heart is full, and my body is exhausted. Which is to be expected, as I have not gotten enough sleep the last two nights. At the same time, I feel as though I’ve been set back in a world, I wasn’t fully present to before. It’s always been there, just that I didn’t notice.

So, with that, I wish you and yours a delightful Sunday. I’m always here for you. See you tomorrow.

#StrategySunday – April 18, 2021

Welcome to another #StrategySunday, champ!

Well, it has become clear that it’s time for a bit of change. And I’m probably due for some time off besides (I’m creating the possibility of taking a break in May). Of course, you will see this reflected in my minutes below.

Here’s this week’s #StrategySunday breakdown.

Minutes

Here is what I went over during this planning session:

  • I usually think of content and product as separate. Now I’m beginning to look at them as the same. In terms of process and approach, there isn’t much difference. May as well combine them and streamline.
  • I went over my content responsibilities for the week.
  • I reviewed my project queue. Looking to wrap up one project today.
  • I reviewed my current musical projects.
  • I went over my admin duties for the week.

Lessons

Was there anything that came out of this week’s reflection and planning session?

  • I didn’t expect daily publishing to be anything less than a roller-coaster ride. And it has been. If it were easy to do, everyone would have done it. But I’m starting to see that broadcasting my grievances publicly, no matter how transparent, human, or real, isn’t always received well. And a lot of people reading don’t have the needed context. I get it. My mission is to inspire creatives and creators. Not discourage them. I will need to adjust on my end to be able to deliver my best on a daily and weekly basis.

Ideas

Were there any ideas that came out of this week’s session?

  • I had the idea to combine content and products, which reduces my five #StrategySunday categories to four. That feels good to me.
  • I’m creating the possibility of working 35-hour weeks, focusing intensely on my work while I’m at work. I will prioritize product creation first and foremost. I will leave time and energy for other activities that revitalize me. I will sit with the tension of not knowing what to do with the time I’m not at work.
  • I may be reducing the number of long-form articles I publish in a week, substituting “days off” with daily progress reports. Publishing daily will continue, but perhaps in a different form.

#StrategySunday – April 11, 2021

Welcome to another #StrategySunday, champ!

This has felt like a rather “standard” #StrategySunday if there ever was one. But that’s a good sign that I’m staying consistent and moving in the right direction. I don’t think I need to make any huge shifts now. Just stay steady, keep doing what I’m doing.

Here’s this week’s #StrategySunday breakdown.

Minutes

Here is what I went over during this planning session:

  • I reviewed my content duties for the week.
  • I went over what I’m looking to accomplish in terms of product development.
  • I reviewed my project queue.
  • I listed out my admin duties for the week.
  • I reviewed current musical projects. One has been completed and will be posted soon.

Lessons

Was there anything that came out of this week’s reflection and planning session?

  • There is value in experimentation. I’ve been doing some spontaneous live streams as of late, and to my surprise, they have attracted an audience and I have been having fun doing them. Compared to a variety of other things I’ve been experimenting with, which either don’t produce much of a result, or haven’t been much fun, I’m far more excited about live streaming now.
  • I have been using Mondays to “ease in” to the week. I am not always successful, but this feels like the right approach.

Ideas

Were there any ideas that came out of this week’s session?

  • Nothing aside from the fact that I plan to do weekly live streams now.
