New Music? Yes!

I recently participated in Calgary Underground Film Festival’s 48 Hour Movie Making Challenge as a composer.

I created new compositions for the short film “Unhappy Endings” along with Shaun & crew on a condensed time frame. I had a hand all of the music featured within this short. Of course, Anna was also involved as a vocalist on a couple of tracks.

2015 is here. What are your goals? What do you hope to accomplish? Where would you like to be a year from now?

I pray that God will pour out his blessings on you in 2015.

Merry Christmas! I hope you’re enjoying this time with loved ones instead of reading this. But if you happen to be reading this on Christmas day, thank you, and I hope you will be blessed by it.

Looking back, 2014 has been an interesting year for me. There have been victories and disappointments. I’ve experienced both despair and hope.

I felt a little down around New Year’s, but I did find comfort in some great books. I initiated an internship at Red Flame, and learned a lot from the experience. But for the first time in 17 months, I started experiencing some financial challenges again.

Then, gradually, I got ushered back into music. Maybe I was looking for comfort, I don’t know. It was as if the hand of God I’ve mentioned so many times before was moving me in that direction.

I started teaching guitar again. It was helping me to pay my bills, and I think I was able to head back into it with a better attitude than before.

I started doing sound tech work, and got paid for it too. I also started exploring more of the open mics in town.

Then summer came. I usually find summer to be an oasis in the midst of chaos, but not this year.

I felt kind of down. Despite recovering some of what I had lost, the financial roller coaster continued. It was clearly headed in a downward direction for this season.

But then, things picked up again in September, and work has been steady ever since.

There have been some other changes too. I’ve been attending a new church, I’ve found a good friend in Maveen, and in a strange way, I feel like I’m picking up where I left off in 2011/2012. I’m delving into the archives, pulling stuff out, and finishing things up. Just look at the AS Movies & Games YouTube channel, where I’ve posted 29 new videos in the last two weeks.

I guess you could say I’m following my heart again. I haven’t gotten everything I’ve wanted, and some of my desires are eager to be fulfilled, but at least I’m happy headed in the direction I’m headed in.

It’s like I’ve spent the last two to three years trying to become what I was never going to be. Now I’ve realized who I am. But that doesn’t diminish the experience. That doesn’t take away from the growth I’ve gone through. I get to take that with me, and that’s really cool.

I know, you’re probably wondering what’s happening on the music front too. Well, things with Jonathan Ferguson‘s second album have been coming along, and I think it’s going to surpass what he was able to accomplish on his first album. I’ve been playing pretty much every type of guitar there is (a bit of an exaggeration) on this upcoming release, so there’s going to be some great texture on it.

My own music projects? I know, you’d like to see me come out with something new too, right? I don’t really feel like that’s my focus right now, and that’s in spite of following my heart, so that should tell you something.

But I did put together a new track called “Assurance” that will be on the podcast soon, and I have also been working on some things with Patrick. I can’t say when it will materialize, but when it does, I should have a new EP on my hands.

Anyway, I hope this has been a tremendous year for you. May God bless you, lead you, give you patience, and fulfill your desires at the right time. Peace and joy.

More accurately, we never really left.

The truth of the matter is that there were some issues with our hosting provider. Bleh. It’s a long story; I don’t really want to talk about it.

So, we don’t really have huge plans for updating the site right now, because we’re all involved in other projects, but you’ll probably hear from us a little more often. Awesome, right? Thought so.

Shout-out as always goes out to The Doge Pound! Make sure to check them out.

See you again soon, okay? Cool!
