The Power of Your Subconscious Mind by Dr. Joseph Murphy had been sitting on my shelf for quite a while before I picked it up.
It was originally recommended to me by my friend, Amos Bracewell, in 2012.
When Amos came and stayed at my home in 2011/2012, he left another book by Joseph Murphy with me entitled Believe in Yourself (affiliate link), which I also reviewed.
Fast-forward to 2015 and I finally got around to these words of wisdom.
Here I will share a few things I learned from this book (in addition to a free download).

1. You Receive Answers to Prayer Because of Mental Acceptance About What You Pray

Murphy proposes that your religious affiliation is not what makes prayer effective. Rather, prayer is based on your ability and willingness to accept what you pray as truth.
You subconscious accepts what you consciously accept.
You subconscious accepts what you consciously accept. Share on XAnother statement that expands on this idea is this one: “The subconscious mind is subject to the conscious mind.” What Murphy is saying is that, in prayer, you can train your mind to believe what you can accept on a conscious level.
2. Your Mind has the Answer to all Your Problems
This statement speaks to the power of the mind. You don’t need to go looking outside for the answers you seek – Murphy is saying – you can look inside, and pose questions to your subconscious in peace.
The answers may not come immediately, but your consciousness is always working on problems you submit to it, even when you’re doing other things, and it will eventually present you with a workable solution.
3. Faith is the Only Universal Healing Principle Operating Through Everybody
The implication here is that faith is created by accessing and harnessing the power of our subconscious minds. Illness, physical ailments, and even traumatic experiences can be healed by repeatedly submitting thoughts of healing to our subconscious minds. We can even achieve prosperity, abundance, harmony, and peace.
Can we be healed by any other means? According to Murphy, no. Faith is the universal healing principle. Of course, I don’t think he would discount the importance of medicine and other orthodox cures, but here he is referring to instances of healing that have occurred in so-called “healing services”, churches, or religious gatherings.
Either way, take inspiration and follow his written word. Believe in your healing! Health is yours.
4. Prayers are Answered Scientifically (by the Lord)
There is a formula to prayers that are answered. Understanding this can change your world.
Murphy explains that “science” means knowledge that is coordinated, arranged, and systematized. We can cooperate with our subconscious minds to see more of our prayers answered in life. Follow this guidance.
The entire book sheds light on how little attention and thought we give to our subconscious minds, and what fantastic tools they are in helping us achieve the ends that we desire to see in our lives. It’s an excellent point.
5. Don’t Compel Your Mind to Accept Your Idea by Willpower

Although Murphy does talk about presenting positive thoughts and images to our subconscious minds, he is also quick to caution us that we can’t force things. We must do this in peace.
We have limited willpower. It continues to diminish throughout the day. Can you imagine how tiring it would be to force yourself to think and visualize the same images all day long?
Chiefly, we can plant seeds and nurture them through prayer, but we shouldn’t be constantly uncovering the soil to see how the seeds are doing. We must keep pulling the weeds and watering the seed to see it grow. That’s wisdom.
6. What Goes in Your Mind Determines Your World
What goes into your mind is hugely important. If you choose poorly, you’ll assimilate bad attitudes, behaviors, and thoughts. You will not find peace. If you choose well, you’ll see positive changes within yourself.
What world do you want to live in? If you aren’t sure what you want to achieve in your lifetime, it makes it much harder to select input that will assist you on your life journey. If you are fully in alignment with your objectives, choosing the right input becomes easier.
If you fill your mind with beauty, you will also see beauty in the world.
7. Man Punishes Himself With His False Concepts Of God
We create our misery in our consciousness. No one else does it for us, not even god.
In 2014, I went through a period of depression. Once, the path ahead was obvious. Suddenly, that path disappeared and I could no longer see what was ahead. I cried out to God but to no avail. My prayers kept hitting the ceiling.
Mysticism is the belief that something outside you controls your life. Recognizing that you are in control and you can rely upon your mind for the answers you seek is empowering. Right or wrong is not something you can check against a book. You already have a sense of right or wrong. So, to fit yourself into someone else’s ideas is to put a square peg in a round hole.
Final Thoughts on Joseph Murphy Prayers
I have described these ideas in my language and from my perspective. So, the author may or may not agree with what I have had to say (in this case, Joseph Murphy is no longer with us), but hopefully, I have explained the value I uncovered in my reading.
Thanks for reading! If you want to check out the book (it will make you happy), you can go to Amazon, where you can learn more about the book and see what others have said about it. If you buy the book through the provided link, I will earn a commission at no additional cost to you.

Thanks for sharing your review.
Glad you liked it, Ibukun!
Amazing Book!
Yeah, it’s not bad, Muaz. Dr. Murphy had a lot of great points to share.
My understanding was that the subconscious mind is the part of God (the soul/the spirit) in every man. It links us to God; in other words, if u have to look for God; then meditate or look inside yourself. If you are a believer, then Jesus comes in as the anchor (the Divine Order)
I think that’s an awesome way to explain it, Mwana! I’m sure there are people who are more familiar with the New Thought movement than I am.
I actually believe that Almighty God created our minds exactly the way they are and He intends for us to use them for their best purpose: to help us with whatever we need. In other words, He created the tools and gave them to us. Now all we have to do is pick them up and use them.
Interesting quotes! That was a great read 🙂 Anyone interested in the law of attraction, please pleaaaseeee read this article: http://www.loamethod.weebly.com. Do what it says in that article and you WILL SEE RESULTS!!!

Thanks for sharing, Chris. In the interest of anyone reading, it would be best to provide only relevant links and nothing overly self-promotional (or I will remove them). But I will let this one go, and hopefully you get some clicks. Looking forward to more pertinent comments from you.
Affiliate link. He’s trying to get sales on a product he’s pushing.
Obviously.
Well, I own the product myself and it’s a good one but I don’t personally like being “sold to”. 🙂
People can sell on their own blog. Just don’t use mine as a garbage dump.
I’m right there with you. While I am an “internet marketer”, I am not a spammer. I consider this behavior “spamming”. A marketer with good integrity would have simply asked you if he could purchase an ad on your blog.
Agreed. That would have been appreciated for sure.
Our subconscious mind is really one of our greatest assets.
Thanks for the comment, Lander. Of that, there is no doubt!
Thanks a lot chris for sharing this. Subconcious mind can be explored with great ideas .those can change life forever
Thanks for reading, gaurav!
Thanks David , it sounded really nice for me .. maybe other points were some how familiar for me but the first point inspired me .. whatever we ask from Allah ,( GOD ) accept that he gave u directly… to be honest in our book ( Quran ) Allah has promised that if a person wakes up midnight and pray and ask something , it is like he through the arrow in exact target ..it means that he will get directly whatever he asks for..
Fascinating perspective, Engineer. And as you know, there is nothing new under the sun. It’s our faith that determines our results.
So true ..
David , actually it is couple of days i am studying about Subconscious mind , i got enough about it , but i couldn’t find exactly how to control my SC mind , it is said that 95 % of life is managed by SC mind , if i can use 50% of that in my own side , i will be more that what i desired .. i really couldn’t find the sources , studies and technics to show me , to guide me .
do you have anything?
I think it goes back to point #5 and #6. Think on positive thoughts. Listen to positive audio programs. Read positive books. Go to events and conferences that stimulate and motivate you to action. Don’t force your mind to accept anything – just keep reading and listening to messages of faith, inspiration, hope, and manifestation.
Dude, seriously…so many “sign up to my email list” pop ups on your site. Annoying. Great article, though. Thank you.
I had it programmed to show up once. That’s my bad. I was planning to remove that one already.
