Waves. Smooth. Ocean.
I’m DavidAndrewWiebe.com, and you’re hearing my new single for 2017 called “Waves.”
Okay, so why is it called “Waves” and how did it come about?
See, the thing is, I like synthwave. You might know that I recorded a song called “City Lights.” Yeah, “City Lights.” It’s kind of a cool tune, I think.
And, it’s basically inspired by synthwave, retrowave, that kind of stuff. I don’t know if you’ve heard it. It’s basically like 80s soundtrack music except it’s been created for modern day. So, it’s new music, and yet it’s old at the same time.
And I was watching the Amy Winehouse documentary called Amy. It’s pretty interesting stuff. And then I thought to myself – and this was a pretty crazy thought to be fair – “is there a way to combine jazz and synthwave?”
And so, that’s really how this track got started. And what’s interesting about it is, it kind of starts with the jazz progression, but then the bass comes in and says, “Hey, what the heck do you think you’re doing? We’re going to play some music here.” And then the jazz progression sort of transitions into more of an island vibe.
And some people have said it sounds a little bit like Sonic 2 or video game music or whatever. So, that’s kind of how it turned out. So, sometimes you never know what’s going to happen when you combine two things. But it might end up sounding like something that’s out there.
So, I like this song a lot. And, there’s a little bit of guitar in there, but for the most part, it is synth that I composed. I always compose first in Power Tab, because I’m super weird, and my name is DavidAndrewWiebe.com. So, that’s just how we do things around here.
So, most of the song was composed in there, and then I imported the media into Tracktion, and then once it was in Tracktion, I just attached certain VST plugins to it, and then it started sounding pretty cool.
Now, are all the sounds the highest quality? No, not necessarily, and if I had better quality plugins, maybe I would choose some other ones, but I don’t, and that’s how we do things at DavidAndrewWiebe.com.
Waves. Yeah, this is brand new music. Are you enjoying it? I hope so. And like I said, it’s got a bit of a video game groove.
So, if you’re listening to this, and you enjoy it, you can get it practically everywhere. I distributed this single through a service called DistroKid, which is pretty cool. DistroKid, yeah, right on.
So, go anywhere you usually go to stream music. But if you care about me, stream it on Microsoft Groove Music. And, if you care even more about me, then buy it on iTunes, and then I make more money.
Yeah, I said iTunes. I know it’s a weird way of pronouncing it. That’s okay, because that’s how we do things here at DavidAndrewWiebe.com.
If you really don’t care about me that much, then you can go ahead and stream it on Spotify because I’m never going to get paid anything from those guys. It’s crazy. It’s ridiculous. No, I shouldn’t say that. I will one day make thousands of dollars from Spotify, but I would prefer to make it elsewhere because they pay me more, and that’s better.
So, buy it if you care, or stream it if you care less. I don’t care. Do you care? Naw. This is how we do things. DavidAndrewWiebe.com. Waves.
